Regional Resources

The following is a list of some of the primary resources available to families. 

  • The Arc of Ohio - The Arc of Ohio links over 20,000 Ohioans to current public policy issues through The Arc of Ohio's weekly newsletter and through social media. These avenues provide individuals and families with a statewide network of support.

  • Autism Society of Greater Akron – is an organization dedicated to promoting education and advocacy related to autism.  They provide a variety of programs and activities that are focused on meaningful participation and self-determination in all aspects of life for individuals on the autism spectrum.

  • Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities - is a state-wide non-profit coalition of parents and professionals who work together to promote efforts to provide quality education for children and youth with disabilities.  Their programs and website focus on helping parents becoming informed and effective advocates for their children.

  • Ohio Developmental Disabilities Planning Council - is a group of 30 members who are appointed by the Governor of Ohio. The majority members are individuals with disabilities or their parents or guardians. They are responsible for granting funds that enrich the lives of people with developmental disabilities with an emphasis on self-determination, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Ohio Family Engagement Center at The Ohio State University - has many resources for families available through their website. They are committed to empowering students, caregivers, and school staff in the development of positive and engaging relationships with each other to support the educational success of K-12 including special education.

  • Red Treehouse - Ronald McDonald Family Resource Link - is an up-to-date resource site for parents and caregivers. There is a great deal of information about caring for children with special needs as well as activities, services and supports.

  • Special Needs Living Magazine  - A monthly magazine for the Special Needs Community, which is written by individuals and families.  Personal stories inspire and give hope to others.  Information and resources are shared.  Look for Special Needs Living on Facebook
